WSJ Troop 207

Daypack:

The official BSA 2015 WSJ daypack holds 20 liters, and it is bladder compatible.  The water bladder is not included with the pack.

This pack is water resistant, but it is not water proof.  It will not keep its content dry in a rainstorm.  You therefore need to keep a large zip-lock bag or a dry bag inside it for items that must be kept dry at all costs (e.g., papers, electronics, first-aid kit).

This daypack will serve as your carry-on bag when you travel.  Do not carry anything in this pack that is prohibited in an airplane cabin.  For instance, keep your water bottle empty when you go through an airport security check and then fill it with water once you are in the secure area of the airport.  Also, keep all spare lithium batteries in your daypack.  For details, study the latest TSA information:

        http://phmsa.dot.gov/safetravel/batteries

This daypack will be what you carry your lunch, rain gear, personal first-aid kit, and change of clothes in when you move around the jamboree.  Keep in mind that the jamboree is a 1km x 3km rectangle, which means that it takes about an hour to walk from one extreme of the jamboree to another.  This should give you an idea of what to bring in your daypack and what you can leave behind in your duffle bag in your tent.

WHAT TO BRING IN YOUR DAYPACK:

  1. 1.Sunglasses, sunhat

  2. 2.Water bottle (empty during security check)

  3. 3.Personal first-aid kit

  4. 4.Flashlight (headlight recommended) & extra batteries

  5. 5.Map & compass

  6. 6.Zip-lock bag or dry-bag

  7. 7.Rain gear

  8. 8.Extra clothing (e.g, long-sleeve shirt or light sweater)

PERSONAL FIRST-AID KIT:

All Scouts must bring along a personal first-aid kit consisting of the following items in sufficient supply to last for the duration of the jamboree:

  1. 1.Band-aids

  2. 2.Moleskin

  3. 3.Chapstick

  4. 4.Sunscreen (50+ SPF, waterproof)

  5. 5.BSA health form

  6. 6.Medicines (that are legal in Japan)

IMPORTANT:  We will travel from the US to the jamboree site

wearing our BSA uniforms, keeping our passport in our right

shirt pocket at all times.  Upon arrival at the airport in Japan, after passing through customs, we will be separated from our duffel bags, and we will not have access to these duffel bags until well after we arrive at the jamboree site the next day (4-6PM, July 28, 2015).  That is, during the first night in the hotel, we will only have the uniform that we wear and what we carry in our daypacks.  So please plan accordingly:  During the travel from the US to the jamboree site, add night clothes and toiletries to your daypack.

WHAT TO LEAVE AT HOME IN THE USA:

  1. 1.Pocket knife (any size)

  2. 2.Medicines that are illegal in Japan

  3. 3.Sandals and flip-flops
